One day Arurar called Paravaiyar to collect gold from the pond of Tiruvarur which had been dropped off in the river at Tirumudukunram. She laughed at very idea of gold dropped off in the river appearing in the pond! He took her to the temple pond and searched for the gold. For a long time, he could not find any. He then sang a decad pleading to the Lord of Tirumudukunram to give him the gold. By His grace he retrieved the 12,000 gold coins much to the wonder of the world! He thanked the Lord and stayed in Tiruvarur praising His immeasurable Mercy.
Worshiping the Lord of Tiruvarur, Arurar started on another pilgrimage, this time saluting the Lord at Nallaru, Tirukadavur Tirumayanam, Tirukadavur Tiruvirattanam, Valampuram, Tiruchaykkadu, Venkadu, Nanipalli, Tiruchemponpalli, Tiruninriyur, Nidur, Tiruppunkur and Tirukkolakka, heading towards Kurukavur. On the way he felt very tired, thirsty and hungry. More than a mother to his devotees, Lord Shiva appeared as an old brahmin and set up a water shelter on the way. He received Nambi, who greeted him with “Shivaya Namah", offering him and the accompanying devotees with rice balls and cool water. Enjoying the rice and water, which was the sweet grace of Shankara bestowed on devotees who walk to Him through the tough desert of worldly pleasures, they all slept there for a while. Meanwhile the Lord disappeared along with the water shelter. Arurar woke up and realized it was only Him, who is given the prime offerings of Vedic rites, that gave them the refreshing food and water. As an outpouring of his gratitude, he sang a devaram to the Lord of Kurukavur.
Sundarar, further continued to the holy sites at Kazhippalai, Tillai, Tirutinai Nagar, Tirunavalur and reached Tondai Nadu. He adored the Lord at Tirukazhu Kunram and reached Tirukachur. Worshiping the Lord with love at that abode, he came out with his hunger for the sight of His Lord satiated but his physical hunger at its peak. The Physician residing at Mount Kailash, who cures the “pashus” off their afflictions, arrived immediately with a bowl in hand, to cure the fatigue and hunger of His dear devotee. He offered to go begging for food for him. The Lord, who of yore had gone begging to remove the ignorance of the Rishis of Darukavana, went begging to satiate the hunger of the devotee, who constantly sang of Him. He brought enough food for Arurar, who shared it with the other devotees who had come along. While they were partaking the alms, the Lord had disappeared. Even though the Grace of the Lord was beyond the limits of praise, Sundarar sang and saluted in all humbleness.
Sundarar reached the city of Kanchi to salute the Lord at numerous temples there, singing devaram-s at Tiruekambam, Tirukamakkottam, Tirumetrali, Onakandantali and Anekatangapadam. He continued his pilgrimage to Vanparthan PanankAttur, Tirumarperu, Tiruvallam and Srikalahasati. From Srikalahasati, he sang about the Lord who has taken abode at Parupadam (Srisailam) and Kedarnath. He visited many shrines nearby and reached Tiruvotriyur amidst the praise and welcome of the devotees of that town. He stayed there saluting the Lord of Tiruvotriyur.
Anintitaiyar, the other divine girl from the incident of Kailash, was born to a farmer, Tirunyayiru Kizhar as his daughter, Sangiliyar. Attractive and blessed with a good character, she was attached to the Great Goddess and Her Consort. When her parents tried to look for a suitable groom, she refused marriage stating that she wanted to serve the Lord at Tiruvotriyur. They were shocked. If anyone sent a wedding proposal to her, bad things happened to them. This made her relatives scared and they let her live her life as per her wish, serving the Lord at Tiruvotriyur. At the monastery in the flower hall of the temple, she served the Lord by making garlands and other floral ornaments.
One day when Vantondar came out through the flower hall, after worshiping Mahesha, he accidentally saw Sangiliyar, who had momentarily moved the curtain separating the monastery to hand over the garlands she had made for the Lord. As destined by his earlier association with her, disturbing his chaste mind, he was lost in her. The friend of our Lord pleaded with the Lord of Uma. The Lord then went on behalf of him to Sangiliyar, with a wedding proposal. Sangiliyar agreed to the proposal with a condition that Arurar would not leave her and go anywhere. The Lord conveyed her agreement and the condition she had set. Arurar was keen to serve the Lord by singing at his many abodes and did not like the idea of staying permanently in Tiruvotriyur. So, he made a secret pact with the Lord to stay under the makizham tree when he came with Sangiliyar to make the promise at the temple instead of the temple altar. The Lord agreed. The Lord then went to the great Sangiliyar, mentioned Vantondar's intention and cautioned her to ask him to promise under the makizham tree instead of the temple altar. The chaste girl thanked the Lord and agreed.
The next morning when Navalurar came to her to make the promise and marry her, Sangiliyar, through her friends, conveyed it to Sundarar that he must take the vow under the makihzam tree. Sundarar was shocked but had to make the promise under the tree where the Lord had come as per the assurance! Sangiliyar, though happy about the promise, felt sad for making Arurar go against his wish, but it was the order of the Lord after all. They saluted the Lord and left. The same night the Lord communicated to the devotees of the town to arrange the marriage of Sundarar and Sangiliyar. The wedding went on well with His grace. Tampiran Tozhar stayed under the shade of love of Sangiliyar for a long time worshiping the Lord of Tiruvotriyur.
