The History of Narasinga Munaiyaraiya Nayanar

Narasinga Munaiyaraiyar was the king of the state Tirumunaipadi where the great devotee Sundara Murti Nayanar, who took great pride in reiterating that he was the servitor of the servitors of the Three eyed Lord, lived. The king was not interested in filling his treasury by burdening citizens. Instead, he filled his heart with the wealth in the form of love for the Lord with matted hair and His devotees. The valorous and victorious king, the servitor of the Lord with the trident, served the Lord with the Moon crown, at many temples in all possible ways. Though he encountered many hurdles, his services to the Great Lord never stopped. Even his own life was insignificant when it came to the work related to Mahadeva, who wears charmingly the horn of a boar.

Narasinga Munaiyaraiya Nayanar - The history of Narasinga Munaiyaraiya NayanarThe festival of Tiruvadirai (Ardra Darshana) of the great God Gangadhara Shiva, was celebrated by Narasinga Munaiyaraiyar every year in a grand manner with extreme love flowing like the Ganges. He used to arrange for special worship in the temples and donated more than hundred golden coins along with a sumptuous feast for the devotees who came besmeared with Holy Ash. On one such Tiruvadirai festival, when he was donating gold to the devotees of the Lord, a person, smeared in Holy Ash, displaying awkward and obscene signs of lust, arrived. All the people gathered there moved away seeing his unpleasant looks, but the king of the state, went with folded hands and received him. Though he was unkempt, he was smeared with sacred Ash that is considered the holiest of the holy by devotees. The king gave him double the number of golden coins he gave others. The king with folded hands spoke pleasant words to him and bid farewell. In this way, attaining perfection of the mind, he performed his unending service throughout his life and finally reached the Feet of Ishwara, perfect and absolute. Let the grandness of vision with which Narasinga Munaiyaraiya Nayanar served the devotees and worshipped God stay in the mind.
