Thokai Adiyar (Group of devotees) - Introduction

Apart from praising the 62 great devotees, Sundara Murti Nayanar, for whom the Lord Himself came in human form to listen to his words of excellent love, praises nine groups of devotees. These are not particular individuals, but general devotees who serve the Lord in those groups. These devotees are called Tokai Adiyar. The Tokai refers to devotees who lived before, during and after the time the saint composed this work. It is remarkable that the great Sundarar, who out of great humility towards the servitors of the Lord, crowned with the Moon, composed the great Tirutonda Tokai, referring to in his adoration devotees who lived in the past, at his time and also who would live with all the qualities of Shiva devotees in the future, thus completing an exhaustive list.
