Where you can get pure Vibhuti

We have come up with this list based on enquiries we have made over the past few months. We are not directly involved with any of the institutions listed below. Those desiring Vibhuti can directly contact any of the institutions listed below and discuss delivery modalities and price. In this regard, we would like to indicate that those desiring Vibhuti in large quantities (greater than 1 Kg), in the short-term, can contact Thiruveezhimizhalai or Villupuram or Nettavelampalayam goshalas. We would actively encourage those associated with any temples or planning events, to speak upfront to one of these goshalas so that Vibhuti preperation can be planned for high volumes. Those looking to use Vibhuti for personal use on a continued basis can use the Madurantakam goshala's Go Raksha Vibhuti.

If you know someone who does Vibhuti the traditional way, let us know. We will add that institution to the list.

The goshala houses more than 200 cows and bulls – all belonging to the Chengalpattu breed of cows. This is the cow breed local to that area. The specialty is that there are no foreign or mix breeds of cows and they also graze in open land, which means that the cow dung is filled with benevolent ingredients. Milk is left for consumption of the calves, with little extraction of local goshala use. There is no commercial utilization of the milk. The website has extensive details on cow protection and significance of Indian breed cows.

As part of their cow protection efforts - Vibhuti is prepared with setting up of the Muttan every monthly Sivarthiri, accompanied with Viraja Homam performed by Brahmasri Mannargudi Gopalakrishna Sastrigal. It is done on a major scale on Mahasivarathiri day. Only dung from cows is used and dung from bulls are not used.

The Vibhuti thus prepared is packed in dabbas (called Go raksha) and distributed through volunteers in various parts of Chennai city and other major cities in Tamilnadu and accompanying states. People living in cities, who otherwise have little chance to contribute towards go samrakshanam can contribute a nominal donation and get Vibhuti as a prasadam.

Those interested can look at the local contacts available at: https://www.goseva.net/vibhuticontact.aspx and then use the vibhuti, month after month. The nominal donation thus collected goes towards cow protection.

The goshala also provides pure cow dung cakes which can be used for homams. Indigenous varieties of fruit trees and paddy are also cultivated organically. Periodically organic groundnut oil and handpounded rice is also available.

The website has extensive photos and videos relating to Vibhuti preparation and cow protection. Income tax rebate under 80 G is available for donations.
