திருச்சிற்றம்பலம்

கிடந்த பாம்பு அருகு கண்டு அரிவை பேதுறக்
கிடந்த பாம்பு அவளை ஓர் மயிலென்று ஐயுறக்
கிடந்த நீர்ச் சடை மிசைப் பிறையும் ஏங்கவே
கிடந்து தான் நகு தலைக் கெடிலவாணரே.

Meaning:
Seeing a snake nearby the lady (gangai) frightened,
on seeing her appearance as a (beutiful) peacock(hen) 
        the snake worried,
the moon that is drowned in the water also concerned 
        (about the snake),
the skull (head) laughs out - such skull wearing is 
the Resident of keDilam.

Notes:
1. appar gives a humorous explanation to why the skull
in the Matter Hair of Lord shiva seems like laughing.
He says it is laughing at the scene where the gangai,
snake and moon that are residing in God's Hair
together are worried by each other !!
2. arivai - lady (here gangai); pEthuRa - afraid;
aiyuRal - suspecting; n^agu - laughing;
vANar - vAznar - resident.
