Meaning of Thevaram

When you sleep and also when you do not sleep,
with the innercore of the heart wearing out of
devotion think everyday. Without deception when
the Feet was hailed, it is the Five Syllables
that fiercely kicked the death off !

Notes

1. During the time of upanayana (thread wearing
ceremony) the vedhins told sambandhar the vedhic
mantras including gayatri. The young sambandhar
who learnt all the great knowledge without
learning by having the milk of wisdom from the
Goddess, taught them that the Holy Five Syllables
(thiru ain^dhezuththu - panychAkshara) is the
essence of the vedhas to be meditated by the
seekers !
2. The Holy Five Syllables are the breath of the
devotees and there is no timing as to when to
chant and when not to, all that would make it
much fruitful is the devotion ! Unlike the other
mantras that require certain preconditions and
specified timings for chanting the Holy Five
Syllables (namaH shivAya) can be chanted even
in the dreams ! Which is the time we could afford
to waste not chanting it ?! Not even the dreams !
