Meaning of the Prayer Hymn:
That, which cannot be heard by the ears,
by which the ears hear,
realize that That alone is the All-pervading;
Not this, that is worshipped here!
1. This previous hymns in this upanishad talked the same way
about speech, mind, eyes and now about the ears.
Does it need to repeat so many times for many of our instruments?
Yes, it needs to. This is an upanishad - the intimate teaching
to the disciple. It has to emphasize very clearly by repeating the
same concept for many instruments, so that it is clear to the
disciple that the limited instruments are incapable of perceiving
the Supreme, but they all operate powered by the Supreme.
There is no point in denying or trying to prove the Supreme
through our limited instruments.
The wise thing is to realize the Supreme Energy that powers us
and to align with That!
Eye (along with mind) is an instrument that
senses things at far. Even such a powerful instrument
cannot see God, but God makes that instrument operate!
