உண்ணாது உறங்காது இருந்தாய் போற்றி
    ஓதாதே வேதம் உணர்ந்தாய் போற்றி
எண்ணா இலங்கைக்கோன் தன்னைப் போற்றி
    இறை விரலால் வைத்துகந்த ஈசா போற்றி
பண்ணார் இசையின் சொல் கேட்டாய் போற்றி
    பண்டே என் சிந்தை புகுந்தாய் போற்றி
கண்ணாய் உலகுக்கு நின்றாய் போற்றி
    கயிலை மலையானே போற்றி போற்றி

Meaning of the Prayer Song:

 Hail, You remained without eating and sleeping!
Hail, You realized Vedas without learning!
Hail, oh Isha, You safely pressed down 
slightly with a finger the king of Srilanka, who did not care!
Hail, You listened to the words in melodious music!
Hail, You entered my mind before itself!
Hail, You stood as the anchor for the world!
Hail, Hail, oh the Lord of the mount Kailash!!

 Notes: 

1. kaN - anchor/ succor / hold.

2.  உண்ணாது உறங்காது இருந்தாய் போற்றி 
God does not have either bhogha from the world,
nor does He get fatigue. So, while all others seek 
pleasure and rest, God Shiva is always Blissful and
never seeks pleasure from anything/anyone else.
He is the source of endless energy, and does not need to
rest for recharging.

c.f. द्वा सुपर्णा सयुजा सखाया समानं वृक्षं परि षस्वजातॆ |
     तयॊरन्यः पिप्पलं स्वाद्वत्त्यनश्नन्नन्यॊ अभि चाकशीति || Rig 1.164.20 ||
(Two birds which are closely associated and intimate friends
reside on the same tree. Of them one (life) tastes its fruits.
The other (God) shines resplendently without tasting.)

3.  எண்ணா இலங்கைக்கோன் தன்னைப் போற்றி
    இறை விரலால் வைத்துகந்த ஈசா போற்றி
The king of words - our saint, Thirunavukkarasar -
plays with the words here. The word pORRi could mean
"hail" as well as "take care". In this two lines he has
nicely used the two pORRis to give these two different meanings,
When Ravana lifted the Kailash God intended to make him realize 
his fault, but did not intend to destroy him. Hence, God
slightly pressed His finger, making him yell at the pressure,
still making no harm to Ravana.

4.  கண்ணாய் உலகுக்கு நின்றாய் போற்றி 
Here, the word kaN means more specially as anchor than the eye.
(c.f. கண்ணிலேன் மற்றோர் களைகண் இல்லேன்)
God Shiva is the only anchor for the whole world.
While all others are transient, Lord Shiva is the eternal support
and anchor that the life can take recourse to!
