Meaning of the Prayer Hymn:
They told Agni, "Jatavedas, Find out who this holy spirit is!"
(He replied,) "Ok"
1. abruvan - told; jAtavedas - all-possessor - a name of agni;
(To read from the start of this episode)
2. They could have humbly asked the Lord in the Yaksha form
to reveal Himself. However, the pride of victory went into the heads of the
divines and hence they relied on their smartness and deputed one amongst them
to "find out" who it is!
This ego is the one that keeps us at bay from being a pure instrument
for the Lord. Due to this impurity in spite of the great Tapas, the divines
were not able to enjoy the complete bliss. Once it is lost, we can be
non-distorting conduits of the Bliss (and enjoy it too!)
3. Compare this vedic episode with the puranic episode where
Brahma and Vishnu try to find out the limits of Lord Shiva.
