Kayakave Kailasa

(Body is the Abode of God) - Prayer of the Day

Prayer from Basavanna Vachana

Song as Romanized text

sharaNa nidragaidaDe japa kANiro

sharaNa naDedude pAvana kANiro
sharaNa nuDidade shivatatva kANiro
kUDalasaMgana sharaNara
kAyakave kailAsa kANiro

Meaning of the Prayer Song:

When the sharana (one who has surrendered to God)
goes to sleep, it is chanting, you see!
When the sharana gets up and baths, it is shivaratri, you see!
However sharana moves is purifying, you see!
Whatever sharana states is shivatattva, you see!
The very body of the sharana of the Lord Kudalasangama
is the Kailasa, you see!!

 Notes:

1. Of the six stages of sipritual journey in virashaiva siddhanta,
sharana sthala is at a high esteem. Here the seeker has
completely surrendered to God everything and is living only
in the Lord's refuge. That person is the sharana. In this song
Basavanna depicts the great state of sharana.
2. Sharana is not bound by the desires and hatreds towards this
world. Like the ripe tamarind which is detached from its shell,
but still stays in it, the sharana is focussed on the Grace at
the shelter of God and just staying in the body.
Act of such sharana, whatever it be are the elevating
virtue for others. Since the ego of that sharana has subsided,
it would be the Grace acting through. His (Her) sleep is japa,
when awake is shivaratri, acts purifying and words are wisdom.
That sharana becomes the carrier of the Lord shiva and it is the
God Who radiates through the sharana. Hence the body of the
sharana itself becomes the abode of the Lord - the Kailasa!!
