Sree Vadakkum Nadha Kshetram is situated in the heart of the Thekkinkadu Ground(Teak Forest) at the centre of Trichur Corporation. This is the first amongst the 108 Siva temples and is considered to be the Mahakshetra. It is believed that in all these 108 temples, the pratistha of Siva was done by Parasurama.
When Parasurama retrieved Kerala from Varuna(Sea God) by throwing his axe from Gokarnam,he prayed to Siva to save the people from all dangers & give prosperity. Then Siva with Parvathy Devi gave Darshan here, which is the middle portion of the retrieved area. Mahavishnu,Sankaranarayanan and Ganapathy are the Upadevas.
Here, we cannot see the Sivalinga as it is covered by Ghee, used for the Abhishekam. Here, one pepal tree is there under which Siva & Parvathy are said to have given Darshan to Parasurama and is called the Sreemoolasthanam. Here, darshan of each of the Devas needs to be had in a special way. Siva,Sankaranarayanan and Sreeraman give Darshan tpwards west,Parvathy in the same Sreekovil of Siva & Ganapathy towards east. The sculptures and wall paintings are very nice.
Gosalakrishnan,Rushabhan,Simhodharan,Ayyapan,Sankhu-chakram,Sankarachariyar are also there outside the Nalambalam.Sivarathri is the only festivel observed. But, the famous Thrissur Pooram is conducted before Siva(Vadakkum Nadhar) only. The Devis and Devas of Thiruvambady, Paramelkavu, Chembukkavu, Naithilakavu, Choorakkodi, Karamukku,Ayyanthole,Laloor,Kanimangalam,Panekkampilly will come here for Darshan on that day. Main offerings are Ghee lamp and Ghee Abhishekam for Siva and Appam for Ganapathy.
