മഹാശിവരാത്രി വ്രത പൂജ മന്ത്രങ്ങൾ

The shivarAtri vrata (Why observed ?) is observed specially in the night of kR^iShNa paksha chaturdashi of month kumba - mAsi (mid Feb - mid Mar) (Sivaratri dates for the current year). The complete night of shivaratri is spent in the worship of the Lord. In the four quarters (yAmas - 3 hours) of the nightspecial prayers are done. The pUja procedure given here is short, but the chanting of shrI rudram or other stotras or the Holy Five Syllables could be done throughout the night.

Perform gaNapati pUja praying for no hurdles to the pUja. Do the sa.nkalpaM as prescribed below: മമോപാത്ത സമസ്ത ദുരിത ക്ശയദ്വാര ശ്രീ പരമേശ്വര പ്രീത്യര്ത്തമ് ശുഭേ ശോഭനേ മുഹൂര്തേ ആദ്യബ്രഹ്മണഃ ദ്വിതീയപരാര്ധേ ശ്വേത വരാഹകല്പേ വൈവസ്വത മന്വംതരേ കലിയുഗേ പ്രഥമപാദേ ജംബൂ ദ്വീപേ ഭാരതവര്ഷേ ഭരതഖണ്ഡേ അസ്മിന് വര്തമാനേ വ്യവഹാരിക - നാമേന സംവത്സരേ ഉത്തരായനേ ശിശിര ഋതൗ കുമ്ബ മാസേ കൃഷ്ണ പശേ ചതുര്ധശ്യാമ് സുഭതിതൗ - വാസര യുക്തായാമ് ശുഭനശത്ര ശുഭയോഗ ശുഭകരണ ഏവംഗുണ വിശേഷണ വിശിഷ്ടായാം ശുഭതിഥൗ ശിവരാത്രി പുണ്യകാലേ ശ്രീ പരമേശ്വര പ്രീത്യര്ഥം മമ ശേമസ്ഥൈര്യ വിജയായുരാരോഗ്യൈശ്വര്യാപി വൃദ്ധ്യര്ഥം ധര്മാര്ഥ കാമമോശ ചതുര്വിധ ഫലപുരുഷാര്ഥ സിദ്ധ്യര്ഥം ഇഷ്ട കാമ്യാര്ഥ സിദ്ധ്യര്ഥം മമ സമസ്ത ദുരിതോപ ശാന്ത്യര്ഥം സമസ്ത മങ്ഗള വാപ്ത്യര്ഥം ശ്രീ സാമ്ബ സദാശിവ പ്രസാദേന സകുടുമ്ബസ്യ ഘ്യാന വൈരാഗ്യ മോക്ശ പ്രാപ്ത്യര്ത്തമ് വര്ഷേ വര്ഷേ പ്രയുക്ത ശിവരാത്രി പുണ്യകാലേ സമ്ബ പരമേശ്വ പൂജാമ് കരിഷ്യേ || നമഃ |

Now do the kalasa pUja.
Meditate on Lord sAmba parameshvara with this shloka:ചന്ദ്ര കോഠി പ്രതീകാശം ത്രിനേത്രം ചന്ദ്ര ഭൂഷണമ്.ഹ് |
ആപിങ്ഗള ജടജൂടം രത്ന മൗളി വിരാജിതമ്.ഹ് ||

നീലഗ്രീവം ഉതാരാങ്ഗം താരഹാരോപ ശോഭിതമ്.ഹ് |
വരദാഭയ ഹസ്തഞ്ച ഹരിണഞ്ച പരശ്വതമ്.ഹ് ||

തതാനം നാഗ വലയം കേയൂരാങ്ഗത മുദ്രകമ്.ഹ് |
വ്യാഘ്ര ചര്മ പരീതാനം രത്ന സിംഹാസന സ്ഥിതമ്.ഹ് ||

ആഗച്ച ദേവദേവേശ മര്ത്യലോക ഹിതേച്ചയാ |
പൂജയാമി വിദാനേന പ്രസന്നഃ സുമുഖോ ഭവ ||

ഉമാ മഹേശ്വരം ദ്യായാമി | ആവാഹയാമി ||

Do the prANa pratiShTA of Lord Shiva and perforM a simple pUjA with dhUpadIpaM and fruit offering
PerforM the shivAShTottara sata or sahasra nAmAvaLi pUja.
