annabhishekam

Annabishekam

  • Annam (cooked rice) is an important part of the worship of Shiva. Annabhishekam is best done every day. Even when if it is not possible to perform it daily, the special Maha Annabishekam can be performed on the Pournami (Full Moon) of the month of Aipasai (Tula).
  • Annam is the best naivedya of offering to the Lord and is called the Maha Naivedya in daily worship.
  • Annam is placed as havis in the Vedic Yagna. Similarly, Annabhishekam is performed on the Shivalinga, which represents the Vedic Fire.
  • Annam is the vital energy. The Vedas praise it as "Annam na Nishindyat", "Ahamannam". Annnabishekam is the worship that offers this vital energy to the Lord.
  • The hot cooked rice should not be anointed on the Lord. It should be at a temperature that can be borne by the hand.
  • It is a boon to consume even a single grain of the Annam prasadam obtained after the abhishekam to the Lord.
