Venattadikal is one among the nine devotees who sung the divine Tiruvisaippa, the ninth Tirumurai. His composition is a part of the sixth set in the Tiruvisaippa. There is not much known about his original name or details about his life. As he belonged to the Venadu (Tiruvangur area which is between Kerala and Tamil Nadu) he is called Venattadikal. His name indicates that he was a renunciate. He had matured devotion for God. It is said that he came from a royal family. His mind was always filled with love for the Three-eyed Lord and he travelled through the southern parts of the land, praising Lord Shiva with nice hymns. Only one of the padikam-s he composed is now available to us which is on the Dancing Lord of Tillai. The time period in which he lived is also unknown.
