Meaning of Sundharar Thevaram
Thinking of You enduringly, I worship everyday
with folded hands. Not making the sword like (sharp)
eyed lady (paravaiyAr) withered and worried,
I got some grains at kuNDaiyUr. There is nobody,
my Lord, please order it to be transported.
Notes
1. kuNDaiyUr kizAr was devoted to the devotee
cundharar. He used to provide the grains for
cundharar's household. Due to a drought, one time
there was a failure in yield. kizAr was very worried
about faulting in the service to the devotee. That
night God made a rain of grains there that piled up
like a mountain Certainly huge should have been
kizAr's service mind). Now kizAr went to cundharar
and told him about the humanly untransportable pile
of grains. Thrilled by the grace God had shown,
cundharar sang, "You have given the mount of rice.
Other than Your attendants nobody could get this
sent to thiruvArUr, so please do that too (!!)"
Probably God was waiting for that song ! On His
order the bUdhagaNas piled them over all the streets
of thiruvArUr. paravaiyAr declared that all the devotees
of thiruvArUr could pick up from the heaps of grain (!!).
2. The word some grains ("cila n^ellu") is quite
enjoyable.
3. n^iththal - everyday; aTTudhal - bring/transport.
