பெருநோய்கள் மிகநலியப் பெயர்த்துஞ் செத்துப்

Meaning of Thevaram

If one does not pronounce the Holy Five Syllables, 
if does not speak the glory of the Fire-like One, 
if never circumambulates the divine abode, 
if does not offer flowers before having food, 
if does not get adorned with white ash to destroy the severe sickness, 
if you ask why did those graceless ones were born, 
taking birth and death full of worst diseases 
they die only to be born again ! 
 
Notes

1. The saint could have said, if one does not  
pray to Lord shiva, one would be pushed into the 
burning hells, as some other religions do, but he didn't. 
It is not the divine concept to prosecute one for 
not worshiping. "Typically" one would get the fruit 
of the deeds done in the past. The God Who raised 
the flag of bull indicating justice, maintains the system 
fairly.  
  We seek God not out of the fear that otherwise It 
would torture us, but we pray to God seeking Its Grace 
to act as the powerful merciful external force to pull us 
out of the wheel of continuous birth and death that has  
the cycles of pleasures and pains. If we don't seek the 
Help of that Almighty, we would be dead to be born  
again and keep getting crushed under the wheel !
