ஒன்றவன் தானே இரண்டவன் இன்னருள்
நின்றனன் மூன்றினுள் நான்குணர்ந்தான் ஐந்து
வென்றனன் ஆறு விரிந்தனன் ஏழும்பர்ச் 
சென்றனன் தான் இருந்தான் உணர்ந்து எட்டே.

Explanation of song:

One is He; Two are His grace; 
Stayed in three; Realized the four;
Won the five; Developed the six; 
Got into the seven strata;
He stayed perceiving in the eight.

onRavan thAnE - One is that God.

iraNDu avan innarul - Two are His grace.
 They are grace of compassion and grace of disciplining
(aRakkaruNai and maRakkaruNai). These are the two
employed by the God to correct and tune the souls
to receive the Bliss.
mUnRinuL n^inRanan - Stood in three.
 In three states He stood - formless, symbol and form
(arUpam, lingam, rUpam)
n^Angu uNarn^thAn - Realized four vedas.
ain^thu venRanan - Mastered five deeds (creation, sustenance,
destruction, illusioning & blessing).
ARu virin^thanan - Expanded into six angas of vedas
Ezumbarc cenRanan - Got in the seven worlds - 
bhU, bhuva, suva, jana, tapa, maha, satyam.
eTTu thAn uNarn^thirun^thAn - resided in the eight.
 - five elements, sun, moon, and soul.

In summary, this opening hymn of thirumanthiram
shows how the One God manifested in all.
