Meaning of Thiruppallandu
Oh the pure hearted devotees who investigated
into the meanings of the shrutis (vedas) that rule
over the words ! Do not get lured into the narrow
paths of small divines that fade away in short time.
Hail the Lovely One with the king of bows - the
golden mEru bow, the Rider of bull, the One
Who is even beyond the term "long live", hail Him
of longevity !
Notes
1. vEdas are full of mantras. mantras are very
powerful words. They provide great powers when
they are chanted. That is the reason people take
very much care not to alter in any way even to the
small extent the way the veda mantras are chanted.
So cEn^dhanAr refer to vEdhas full of such mantras
as "collANDa curuthi".
2. The devotees who seek the Supreme Truth dwell
into the deeper meaning of the vedas. Such
investigation would reveal the Supreme Qualities of
Lord shiva. Having obtained the hold of the Supreme
Being, the devotee should not be lured away by the
momentary glitters that provide short term narrow
contoured benefits, but should seek the Supreme
that is in fact the Master of everything/every divine
(parameshwara).
3. God is kAlakAla. It is beyond the time. It does
not have beginning or end. So the author refers to
the fact that word, "long live" itself ceases to have
the usual meaning when hailing our Lord. Such Lord
we hail "long live" (out of our love).
4. curuthi - vedas (shR^iti); kanakam - gold;
viDaN^gan - lovely; padham - word/meaning.
