Meaning of Tirunavukkarasar Thevaram

Remove aside the killing pain ! I am ignorant
of the vicious deeds committed. Oh the Lord
of bull, to Your Feet I would keep saluting
always without diverging, be it day or night.
Unexplainably inside my stomach centered at
the intestine it is repressing, I, Your slave,
am not able to bear it ! Oh Loving Lord taken
abode at adhikaik keDila vIraTTam !

Notes

1. appar became a jain by name dharumasEnar,
departing from the traditional glory of shaivism.
The Lord wanting to bring back a splendid saint
to the Truth of shaivism gave him terrible
sUlai pain in his stomach. Having exhausted
all the medicines given by the jains without
getting any sort of improvement, he remembered
his loving sister thilakavathiyAr. That
wonderful sister he was blessed with, wanted
not only the pain of her life like brother cured,
but also wanted the path he moves be corrected.
She gave him the Holy Ash and initiated back
into the worship of Lord shiva. At the abode of
thiruvadhikai he sang this first song pouring
out the pain and his commitment to the Supreme
God. The padhikam stands as testimony to that
glorious title he received from the Lord,
"the king of words". (The complete padhikam is
available

2. kURRu - death; ERu - bull; thORRAdhu -
veiling; agampaDi - internally.
