Meaning:
With the sea-forest of punnai (alexandrian laurel) trees blooming with
honey, the Lord of kapaaliishwaram resides enjoying the abode of
mayilaarpuur. Feeding of His devotees who stick themselves to the Lord,
is the festival in the month of puraTTAsi (mid sep -mid - oct). How
can you go without seeing that, puumpaavai ?
Notes:
1. The daughter of a devotee shivaneesan in mayilaarpuur, was bitten by
snake and died. The devotee has kept her ashes for long time and when
sambandhar came to mayilai he cried to him. Merciful blessed sambandhar
sang the glories of the festivals that happen in mayilaarpuur calling
out the deceased girl by name asking how she could die without seeing
those glories. For each song the ashes started taking shape. As he sang
the tenth song, the girl came out alive from the pot of ashes. While
others hailed sambandhar, the saint like the flood flowing into a
trench, rushed into the temple to hail the glory of the Lord !
2. Starting from puraTTAsi in this first song, sambandhar marks the
glorious festivals that happen in the shore-temple of mayilaarpuur in
each month.
3. This song tells the glory of devotee feeding called maaheeshvara
puuja.
4. maTTu - honey (kaL); kaanal - shore-forest; kaTTu - building, abode; aTTiTTal - feeding.
