Meaning of Thevaram

Kept the devotees who melt in (His) thoughts, weary.
Kept the bad deeds departing, without any pause.
Kept the blanket of fierce elephant skin.
Kept the bud of waxing moon.
The clan of celestials well probing whichever flowers
they chose to be the best and wore on their glittering
crowns, the honey of which buds flow and make wet,
such Feet of His, He kept on my head, the Lord of
thirun^allUr nicely.

Notes

1. This song was sung by appar perumAn when the
Lord accepting his pleading kept His Glorious Feet
unseen by brahma and viShNu on his head at thirunallUr.
The way the king of words describe the Feet that was
kept on his head is enchanting. Describing how
selectively the divines pick and choose the flowers to
their flashy crowns cryptically says that the honey from
those flowers make the Feet of the Lord wet, indicating
the Supremeness of the Feet that are worshipped by all
the divines and also the soft and sweetness of those
Matchless Feet.
2. The clothing wear out when continuously worn and
used. The minds of the devotees keep thinking in full
love in days and dreams, such worn are the minds of
the mature devotees. Those devotees don't have time
to worry about any bad karma, their age old bad deeds
are removed by the God. The danger that come to them
like the fierce elephant daemon are vanquished by Him.
They would be growing like the waxing phase of the
moon by His Grace.
3. n^aidhal - wear out; kaLiRRurivai - elephant skin;
madhi - moon; thaLir - sprout/bud; pOdhu - bud;
pilgi - drip.
