Meaning of Thiruthondar Puranam
Their wealth is devoid of ruining and prosperity !
They would regard both tile and true gold as the same !
Other than saluting in the increasing love,
they stay in the valor of not even asking for liberation !!
Notes
1. Whatever be the wealth one is able to think of, there are
cycles of its growth and dip, however be its magnitude. But the
wealth these devotees have is ever unchanging ! That is the
wealth called Lord shiva. Being the Perfect Being to what can
It grow and to what It could diminish !!
(c.f. celva parAyththuRai celvamE cidhaiyAdhana - cambandhar)
What else could be more
covetous than This wealth of the devotees, however rich or
unprosperous in the eyes of the world they may be ! And when
such an incomparable wealth is available, the glitters of gold
as against a clay tile would not in any way alter their orientation.
2. The crown piece has been kept in the later two lines.
Fine, having analyzed and realized, one sacrifices their
belongings all sorts of attachments. For what ? In order to seek
the great liberation. "The" thing being yearned for by the greatest
of the great sages performing unexplainable austerities - in other
words the whole point of life. These devotees do not seek even
that liberation, but want to immerse themselves in the love for
Lord shiva that is ever growing and growing beyond others'
imaginations! No doubt, these are the people who see the liberation
not at the end of their life, but right here !!
(There is a story of a sage and common man who enquired nAradha
to find out when they would get liberation. The sage in getting to
know that one more birth is required to get to liberation became sad.
On the other hand, the common man started dancing in joy when he
heard it would take as many as the number of leaves in the tree !
He said, "God is so graceful, ultimately I am also eligible for
liberation." God granted immediate liberation to Him !!)
3. thiru - wealth; okka - similar; vIDu - liberation/mukthi;
viRal - valor.
