Thiruchirrambalam

Meaning of the Prayer Song:

Keeping aside the tides (Ganga) along with the growing cool moon,
the Priordial Lord, Who embraces the breast of Uma,
and is still rejoicing only in the Self,
He, the One with the beautiful nice garland of skulls,
rules the Rameshwaram of groves rich with leafy Thazhai (Ketaki).

 Notes:

1. muni - one who is moved by internal joy.
Sambandhar jovially brings out the nature of the Supreme Shiva.
Shiva has the lady Ganga on the matt locks.
However, He keeps her aside along with the moon,
and embraces Uma. However, if you ask whether He is also
triggered by the external enjoyments, the answer is a clear no
- that comes in the very next word - muni.
Muni is one whose enjoyment is not external but is internal.
Lord Shiva is the Muni and He is the Munishwara.
One of His eight qualities is possessing Eternal Bliss.
He plays with the creation, but has no enjoyment out of it.
His enjoyment is only from the Self.

c.f. a. நேரிழையைக் கலந்திருந்தே புலன்களைந்தும் வென்றானை - Appar
     b. மங்கையோ டிருந்தே யோகுசெய் வானை -  Ninth Thirumurai
     c. முனிகள் முனியே - Sundharar
