Who Energizes Us?

Prayer of the Day

Prayer from Thiruvarutpayan (திருவருட்பயன்)

அறியும் நெறி

புன்செயலின் ஓடும் புலன் செயல் போல் நின் செயலை
மன்செயலதாக மதி 57

Song as Romanized text

aRiyum neRi

pun seyalin ODum pulan seyal pOl n-in seyalai
man seyalAka mathi    57

Meaning of the Prayer Song:

Realize that your action is energized by the Eternal Lord,
like the action of the senses that go on the mean things (are yours).

 Notes:

1. punseyal - mean deeds; man - Eternal Lord.

2. Even we have got a fully capable hand, it cannot perform
unless we, the life instruct/energize it to act.

The same way we may be thinking that we are performing the
actions. However the energy for us to act is provided by the Supreme Shiva.

Does that mean that we are not responsible for our actions and everything
is deed of God? If so, is that a free for all and put the blame on God?

No, not really. We have our likes and dislikes (Raga and Dvesha).
We think and act based on these preferences. When God does not provide
us the energy to act, the preferences are dormant in us.

In the creation God energizes us making us act on our preferences. These
preferences get us the Karma and its fruit. Through this feedback process,
the preferences get tuned - ultimately to be tuned fully to taste the Divine
Bliss that Lord Shiva showers on us.

So, the essence of the song is, without the energizing by the God,
even if we want, we would be incapable of performing any action.
We should thank the God for the energizing us every moment!!
