Meaning of the Prayer Hymn:

 With the golden lid the face of the Truth is covered.
Oh sun, you remove that! Let (me) see with true-principle!

 Notes:

1. hiraNmaya - golden; pAtra - plate; apihita - concealed;
pUShan - sun; apAvRunu - open.
2. We see the sun as a glowing golden disc.
But what is beneath the gross golden sun.
It is the Supreme Shiva Who is the energy behind the sun,
which provides energy to this whole world.

God has sun as one Its eight forms (ashta murti).
The Gayatri mantra addresses the sun in the
grosser form and the Supreme Shiva as the subtle
essence in it.
