திருச்சிற்றம்பலம்

சீரார் கழலே தொழுவீர் இது செப்பீர்
வாரார் முலை மங்கையொடும் உடனாகி
ஏரார் இரும்பூளை இடம் கொண்ட ஈசன்
காரார் கடல் நஞ்சு அமுதுண்ட கருத்தே.

Meaning of the Prayer Song:


 Oh those, who worship the Perfect Feet!
Tell this. What is the motive for the God,
Who along with the Lady of covered breasts
residing at the beautiful Thiruvirumbulai,
to eat the dark poison of the sea as ambrosia!


 Notes: 


1. sIr - perfection; vAr - long cloth; Er - beauty.

2. This Padhikam has a special name called Vinavurai,
as all the songs are addressing the devotees inquiring
them about the great deeds of the God. (There is also 
another Vinavurai padhikam for Thirukkandiyur)

2. Since this temples sthala vruksham is Pulai
this abode is called Thiruvirumpulai (It is called Alangudi now).
