Om
Meaning of the Prayer Hymn:
The breath attain eternity in air!
This body ends up as ash!
"Om"
Think by Creator! Think of Creator!
Think by Creator! Think of Creator!
Notes:
1. anila - breath; smara - remember/think.
2. vAyur anilam amRutam atha idaM bhasmAntaM sharIram
Through the previous mantras the wisdom of the Essential Being
- the God - is established. Now the seeker is about to get engrossed
into that wisdom. This is the state of renunciating the bondage
and associating with the Supreme. So the transience of the
material body is stressed in the first part of the hymn.
3. Om
This is the Udgitha. This is the mantra the refined seeker
takes refuge in. This is indeed the invocation of God!
4. krato smara kRutaM smara
Think by Creator! Think of Creator!
With the Udgitha (pranava) as the resort,
the seeker asserts, "May I think by (the grace of) the Creator,
May I think of the Creator!" This is the state of,
anirAkaraNamastvanirAkaraNam mE astu in the
shantipatha of Chandogya upanishad.
Grace of the God has been the enabler for us to attain Bliss.
By relying on God we attain Bliss! This is the state of liberation
Shaiva Siddhanta depicts.
