Meaning of the Prayer Song:
There is nothing my deed; Oh God, I have further
realized that everything is Your deed!
After taking this body, there is no misdeed done.
Is it the bad karma before this birth that has
come together this way?
Notes:
1. Context of the song:
A gang of thieves, on their escape threw a necklace to Ganapati in a temple.
That fell in the neck of Pattinathar who was in Nishta and he did not realize.
The guards mistook Pattinathar as one of the thieves. The king ordered him to be executed on the stake.
When Pattinathar came in front of the stake, he sang this.
The stake got burnt immediately. The king realized his big mistake and
begged for forbearance of his sin. Pattinathar blessed him with wisdom.
The king realizing the futility of the material pursuits relinquished his
kingdom and became a saint. (He is the renowned Badragiriyar.)
2. என்செயலாவதியாதொன்றுமில்லையினித்தெய்வமே
யுன்செயலேயென்றுணரப்பெற்றேன்
When the desire has been completely on to Shiva,
the deeds are no longer that of the individual.
The Gyani realizes that it is indeed the Grace of Lord Shiva
that energizes us to do anything and it is only our
will/desire that earns the karma. When the desire is kept
on Shiva and surrendered the self to the Lord, the individual
earns no karma. It is the act of God.
