Prayer of the Day

Prayer from Isha Upanishad

यस्तु सर्वाणि भूतान्यात्मन्यॆवानुपश्यति ।
सर्वभूतॆषु चात्मानं ततॊ न विजुगुप्सतॆ ॥ ६ ॥

Hymn as Romanized text

Om

yastu sarvANi bhUtAnyAtmanyEvAnupashyati |
sarvabhUtEShu chAtmAnaM tatO na vijugupsatE || 6 ||

(yastu sarvANi bhUtAni AtmanyEva anupashyati |
sarva bhUtEShu cha AtmAnaM tatO na vijugupsatE || )

Om

Meaning of the Prayer Hymn:

One who perceives in the Atman everything,
and in the same way Atman in everything,
does not hate.

 Notes:

1. anupashya - perceive; jugupsat - dislike.
2. The word Atman refers to the "essence",
the driving force in the person. Depending upon the
context it could mean the soul or God Who is the essence
of that soul even. Here the God Who as Ashtamurthy
resides as the essense of the soul as well is referred as
Atman.
3. Since the realized sees that the Essence in him/her
is the same that moves the whole world. God resides
in our soul. The very same God energizes everything in
the world. Like and hatred come due to the narrow focus
we put on people/things. When we see everything as
"Isha vAsyam" - residence of God, there is nothing to hate!
