Parched Amidst Flood!

Prayer of the Day

Prayer from Thiruvarutpayan (திருவருட்பயன்)

அருளது நிலை

வெள்ளத்துள் நாவற்றி எங்கும் விடிந்திருளாம்
கள்ளத் தலைவர் கடன்  38

Song as Romanized text

aruLathu n-ilai

veLLaththuL n-AvaRRi eN-gum viDin-thiruLAm
kaLLath thalaivar kaDan  38

Meaning of the Prayer Song:

 Like getting parched amidst flood,
like seeing darkness when everywhere is dawn,
is the act of the hero under deception.

 Notes:

1. The hero in focus here is the soul. The soul is under
the veil of ignorance and hence called Kallath thalaivar.

While someone is surrounded by nice flowing river,
how stupid it would be to say, "My tongue am drying out of thirst!"
When it is all day outside, how foolish it would be to
see the darkness?

The same way while the Grace is everywhere and all of
us are living in it, not recognizing that Grace shows the depth
of illusion we are in.

2.  வெள்ளத்துள் நாவற்றி
c.f. வெள்ளத்துள் நாவற்றி ஆங்கு உன் அருள் பெற்றுத் துன்பத்தின்றும்
விள்ளக்கிலேனை விடுதி கண்டாய் - திருவாசகம்

This Thiruvarutpayan song reflects the above mentioned Thiruvasagam
both in meaning and words!
(Even having got Your Grace, I have not cut off my connection to misery,
like getting parched amidst flood)
