Meaning of the Prayer Song:

 You are Omniscient, Faultless ocean of grace, Omnipotent!
Why don't You consider me, who is sinking in the ocean of misery?
What fault will be with You, oh Shiva, if you lift up this one (me) -
who even though has sin inside, a creature distressed beyond limit
in all ways!

 Notes:

1. nirupadhi - blameless; nimagnam - sunk; gaNayasi - take into account;
rujA - breaking; atyanta - beyond limit; dInam - suffering; jantu - creature;
uddharasi - uplift; atiprasa~ggaH - unwarranted.

2. This song is more pf pleading the Lord for rescue.
Got into the ocean of misery, trying to come out on our own
would be an effort to work the way out of the quagmire.
The more one tries, the more one gets in further.
This is where the atheistic philosophies of Jainism and Buddhism fail.
It requires the helping hand of the Supreme.
So this song pleads for the Grace.

3.  सर्वज्ञस्त्वं निरुपधिकृपासागरः पूर्णशक्तिः
Three of the eight attributes  of God are called out by
Appayya Dikshithar in this song. They are
Omniscient, Ocean of Grace, Omnipotent.
If God is Omniscient, He would know our suffering;
If God is both form of Grace and Omnipotent, He can help and will too.
If that is the case why do we suffer?
God can and is willing to give us Eternal Bliss.
While somebody can give sweet to us and even feed us
experiencing sweetness is unique to the individual.
The same way, when God gives us the Eternal Bliss we
should be oriented to absorb it and relish in it.
All what we are going through is the preparation process for
that enjoyment, so that we can orient ourselves to Lord Shiva without any
deviations willfully.

4.  यद्युद्धरसि शिव कस्तावतातिप्रसङ्गः
What fault will you get by lifting this sinister up?
