Meaning of the Prayer Hymn:
Oh the Basis, the Unique, the Controller, the Propeller (Sun),
Lord of lives, remove the ensemble of rays!
Whichever is Your form, brilliant and auspicious,
I see That in You. Whoever is That Being, I am Him!
Notes:
1. pUShan - supporter; EkarShe - the only; vyUha - remove; rashmin - rays; samUha - withdraw.
2. The epitets mentioned in the hymn refer to sun at a gross level
and the Supreme in the subtle level.
Sun is the basis for this whole system to function. (Pushan - supporter)
There is only one sun (EkarShe).
Sun controls the activities - its movement determines the day and night. (yama)
Sun is the propeller - energy giver (Surya)
All the lives depend on sun for their sustenance and propagation (prAjApatya)
All the above apply to the Supreme Lord.
3. yO&sAvasau puruShaH sO&hamasmi
Whoever is That Being, I am That!
The seeker in this world requests sun to remove the gross glitter.
In the sun the seeker sees the Inner Being Who energizes the sun,
who in turn energizes this whole system.
The seeker then identifies that Inner Being as the One verily in him.
It is that very same Supreme Lord Who is in the sun,
resides in me too!
The Ashtamurthi principle is to be recollected here.
God is resident in - sun, moon, in five elements
(air, fire, water, earth and space) and soul.
So the seeker sees the Shiva in both sun as well as own soul.
