Prayer from Kena Upanishad


श्रॊत्रस्य श्रॊत्रं मनसॊ मनॊ यद्
    वाचॊ ह वाचं स उ प्राणस्य प्राणः ।
चक्षुषश्चक्षुरतिमुच्य धीराः
    प्रॆत्यास्माल्लॊकादमृता भवन्ति ॥ २ ॥

shrOtrasya shrOtraM manasO manO yad
    vAchO ha vAchaM sa u prANasya prANaH |
chakShuShashchakShuratimuchya dhIrAH
    prEtyAsmAllOkAdamRutA bhavanti || 2 ||

Meaning of the Prayer Hymn:


 Realizing the ear of the ear, mind of the mind, 
speech of the speech and also breath of the breath,
eye of the eye, the intelligent who are liberated,
they crossing death, in this world itself 
become immortals


 Notes: 


1. shrotra - ear; chakShu - eye; atimuchya - given up; 
dhIra - intelligent; prEtya - having died.

2. The previous hymn was a question, "What makes the 
instruments - ear, mind etc - function?"

3. The intelligent one who realizes that these grosser instruments
are not the essence - thus distinguishing their (limited) faculty at the
instrument and thus having eliminated those options - in the process
liberating from the body - stays as immortal in this world itself.

This may sound as a paradox - "Having died, stay as immortal in this world"!!
The common people associate themselves with the body and
they go through the sorrow of being dead. The intelligent who
realize that the body is limited and disassociate from it, cross the
death at the very same point and even when they live in the body
in this very same world, they are immortals as they do not associate
themselves with the mortal coil.
