Are Rig and Sama vedas totally different? Significance of Om from Chandogya upanishad

Prayer of the Day

Om Prayer from Chandogya Upanishad

वागेवर्क् प्राणः सामोमित्येतदक्षरमुद्गीतः
तद्वा एतन्मिथुनं यद्वाक् च प्राणाश्चर्क् च साम च ।

Hymn as Romanized text

Om

Om

Meaning of the Prayer Hymn:

Verily speech is the Rk; Breath is Sama; They sing (udgita) the syllable Om.
Hence they are couples - like the speech and breath -
the Rk and Sama.

 Notes:

1. tadvA etanmithunaM
Rk and Sama are not totally two different things.
They share the same mantras.
Like the breath and speech they are always coupled.
