Using Web tools for viewing the transliterated files
The Shaivism Pages started with using the ITRANS scheme of transliteration. But since the ITRANS scheme has undergone many changes, the scheme followed here is now a little bit different from that. It is possible to view these transliterated documents in the original language script/font (ie like reading directly from the original book). The ITRANS package could be installed and used directly for viewing the transliterated files in this web site. But when this is not possible, the easier solution is to use the Web Interface to ITRANS. You could follow the below mentioned procedure for this.
- Preprocessing (For thamiz only): Since there is a difference in the version of ITRANS this Web Interface is accepting and the transliteration scheme followed in these pages, there needs to be some changes made to the original transliterated file before this could be viewed. Please copy the file you would like to view to a temporary file. In this temporary file do the following find/replaces in the same sequence
- t's with T's
- d's with D's
- Th's with th's
- Dh's with dh's
- n's with ^n's
- ^n^'s with n's (Be cautious that ^n^n should not be changed to nn. For this replace alone do not use ReplaceAll option. Any other betterway ?!)
- ^ny's with ~n's
- This preprocessed file could be pasted as input in the Web Interface page, select the appropriate language and submit.
- The output would appear as a GIF. If the output is more than a page the ps file it generates could be used to view the complete text.
