Prayer from Sivagnana Sidhdhiyar

திருச்சிற்றம்பலம்

மன்னவன் தன் மகன் வேடரிடத்தே தங்கி
வளர்ந்(து) அவனை அறியாது மயங்கி நிற்பப்
பின்னவனும் என் மகன் நீ என்று அவரிற் பிரித்துப்
பெருமையொடும் தானாக்கிப் பேணுமாபோல்
துன்னிய ஐம்புல வேடர் சுழலிற் பட்டுத்
துணைவனையும் அறியாது துயருறும் தொல்லுயிரை
மன்னும் அருட் குருவாகி வந்(து) அவரின் நீக்கி
மலம்அகற்றித் தானாக்கி மலரடிக்கீழ் வைப்பன்.

Meaning of the Prayer Song:
The king, whose son grew up among the hunters
without realizing his (royal) identity,
made the son realize that he is the son of the king,
which makes the son leave the company of hunters and
associates himself with the pride of royal lineage.
In the same way the ageless soul that is suffering
swarmed in the whirl created by the hunters of five senses,
not able to know even the guardian,
the Lord coming as the gracious Guru,
disassociating from them (the path of senses)
removing the filth (of the soul),
making the soul as Self (Siva), would keep under the Floral Feet.

Notes:
1. One of the major causes of our sufferings is we
think we are the body and allow us to be dragged in
all directions by the senses - like the prince who mistook
himself as the hunter.
We are all indeed children of God. Our Father, the Lord Shiva
is highly merciful on us. He would come in the disguise of a Guru
and make us realize that we are not the body and associate us
with the Supreme Shiva and lead us to a state we identify
ourselves with none other than Supreme Shiva - the state of Bliss.
2. tholluyir - Ancient soul
We - the souls - are ageless. In fact we are as ancient as our
Father - pathi - the Lord Shiva. God did not create us, but created
the body, instruments, worlds and enjoyments (tanu, karaNa, bhavana, bhOga)
as a pathway to Godhead.That is why the God is the Father.
3. arut guruvagi vandhu
Either God Itself assuming the role of guru or
acting through a guru.
