nakkIrar
n^akkiradhEva n^AyanAr is one among the twelve who sung the padhinOrAn^ thirumuRai (eleventh thirumuRai)(1). There have been many poets by name n^akkIrar referred in the history. One set of people say that of whatever is present in the thirumuRai attributed to n^akkIrar, thirumurugARRuppadai was written by the n^akkIrar who lived in the sangam period (BCE) and the rest were written by the n^akkIrar who lived later (ACE). The n^akkIrar who lived in the sangam period was the head of the Tamil Forum patroned by the pANdiya kings. There are very many songs attributed to him in the sangam literature. He had great love for Lord shiva and murugan. Stories about this n^akkIrar, his talance and his devotion towards the Lord are depicted in thiruviLaiyAdal purANam(2). Apart from thirumurugARRuppadai there nine compositions attributed to n^akkiRar are present in eleventh thirumuRai (kayilaipAdhi kALaththipAdhi an^dhAdhi, thiruIN^gOymalai ezubhadhu, thiruvalanychuzi mummaNikkOvai, thiruvezu kURRirukkai, perun^dhEva pANi, kOpap pirachAdham, kAr ettu, pORRith thirukkali veNpA, thirukkaNNappa dhEvar thirumaRam)
